Afghanistan Center for Commercial Dispute Resolution (“ACDR”) partnered with SAARC Arbitration Council (“SARCO”) and Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (“ACCI”) for a successful seminar on arbitration entitled “Understanding of Arbitration and Commercial Arbitration Law of 2007” on 24th Nov, 2020.

The Chief Guest of the seminar was H.E. Abdul Baseer Anwar, Minister of Jutice of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Distinguished dignitaries from ACCI, Supreme Court, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the seminar.

Mr. Zahid Omarzai, the Executive Director of ACDR, addressed the participants of the seminar at the inaugural session of the seminar and provided information to the participants about the role of ACDR in promotion and development of arbitration in Afghanistan.

The seminar had two panel discussions. The first panel discussion was on Increasing Access to Regional Arbitration moderated by Mr. Kawun Kakar, Managing Partner of Kakar Advocates & ACDR Arbitrator, and the panelists were Mr. Bharatendu Agarwal, Assistant Director (Law) of SARCO, Dr. Ahmad Khalid Hatam, Dean of Social Sciences of Kardan University & ACDR Arbitrator, Mr. Jalaluddin Saeed, Executive Committee Member of SAARC CCI, Mr. Abdul Salaam Kohi, Senior Legal & Policy Advisor of ACCI and Ms. Manizha Wafeq, Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries (AWCCI).

The second panel discussion which was moderated by Mr. Omarzai was on Drafting Operative Arbitration Clauses and The Dispute Resolution Process in Arbitration. The panelists were Ms. Freshta Zuhal Rahman, Partner of Rosenstock Legal Services & ACDR Arbitrator, Dr. Abdul Wahid Afzali, Law Professor at Avicenna University & ACDR Arbitrator, Mr. Mohammad Ismail Shahid, Partner of Lex Ferghana Law Firm & ACDR Arbitrator, and Dr. Haroun Rahimi, Law Professor at American University of Afghanistan & Member of ADR Commission of ICC Afghanistan.
